Ventilation of Refuse Chutes
| Chutes should be ventilated
in accordance with BS1703:1977, which requires as a minimum for any chute
a ventilation pipe with a cross-sectional area of 0.035square metres.
For concrete chutes there are two possible methods which conform with the standard, as follows:- a) LC2 or VLC2 units may be built up to roof level, topped with a concrete flashing unit and terminated with a concrete vent unit and cap unit. b) The concrete chute may terminate with an LC6V or VLC6V cap unit at least 300mm above the level of the highest hopper, from which the foul air is carried by a ventilation pipe of the required size to roof level, or at an angle to a wall ventilation unit. There must be free cross-ventilation at the outlet point, and it must be positioned so that foul air is carried away from the building and windows or ventilation units. |
